I'd just like to introduce myself, and the purpose of this blog.
My name is Thomas Ting, though I more commonly go by the handle "Zinegata" on the Internet. I currently reside in Manila, the Philippines, and a lot of what I write will specifically address local issues (though international readers may also find interesting tidbits). I mainly work as a marketing professional, working as an assistant brand manager for a major telecommunications company.
What this means is that my day job consists of planning, implementing, and monitoring various advertising campaigns, and hope that the ads convince you (the customer) that my company's products are worth giving a shot. It doesn't always work, but I'm happy whenever sales go up and people say it was because of the marketing team's campaign :)
However, I've also recently re-started a part-time occupation, which is writing. I write stories, mainly ones involving fantasy or science fiction, and I hope to have some of my stories published in the near future.
I'll be honest - none of my works have been published yet, except for a few works I've posted online on fanfiction.net or fictionpress.net. But this is precisely why I've decided to start this blog - I hope to provide a running chronicle on how someone was able to "break into" the writing industry, providing tips and lessons for other future aspiring writers.
Along the way, I also hope to provide some insights on writing based on my own experiences as a marketing professional. I think there's actually a lot in common between these two professions (which I'll get into in future posts), and this is why I chose the title "Selling Stories" for my blog. Writing is all about creating stories. Marketing is all about selling them.
Well, that's about it for the introduction. I hope this will be the start of something useful and productive for the writing community (especially the Filipino writing community) :)
